He didn't get the part, but in a decision that would prove to be incredibly smart, stuck around an extra day so that he could audition for a new romantic comedy called Moonlighting, set to debut the following March on ABC.

The show, which aired until May 1989, was a huge hit for ABC and an even bigger launching pad for Willis. In 1987 Bruce Willis returned to film when he was matched with Kim Bassinger in the comedy, Blind Date. That same year, the actor hitched himself to a future of tabloid gossip when he married another star, Demi Moore. The Official Charts Company announced that Adele is the first living artist to achieve the feat of two top five hits in both the UK Official Singles Chart and the Official Albums Chart simultaneously since The Beatles in 1964. 21 has spent eleven consecutive weeks at number one in the UK, the longest ever by a female solo artist on the UK Albums Chart, surpassing Madonna's nine weeks at number one in 1990 with her greatest hits compilation The Immaculate Collection. She made an appearance in the 2012 Guinness Book Of World Records. In the US the album has spent a total of thirteen weeks at number one on the Billboard 200, the longest an album has held the top position since 1998. The album has also broken the record for the most UK digital downloads. As of May 2011 the singer was worth £6 million, tying her with Lily Allen and Duffy for 9th place on the list of the richest British and Irish music stars under age 30.

Adele Laurie Blue Adkins was born on 5 May 1988 in Tottenham, London, England, to a single teenage mother on 5 May 1988. She began singing at age four and asserts that she became obsessed with voices. Adele has cited the Spice Girls as a major influence in regard to her love and passion for music, stating that "they made me what I am today." However, British singer Adele – whose album "21" is the best selling in 2011 – and R & B artist Bruno Mars were close behind with 6 apiece, including nods for the 3 major awards of song, album and record of THE year.

Other major contenders for the great music industry awards Show include U.S. alternative rock band Foo Fighters, also with 6 nominations, while rapper Lil Wayne and newcomer Skrillex had 5 nominations apiece.

Nominated for the TOP Awards, announced during a televised concert in Los Angeles featuring performances by Usher, Lady Gaga and up-and-coming country singers "the Band Perry".

Winners in all 78 categories will be announced at the Grammy Awards ceremony and show on 12 February.

Traditional rock bands were largely missing from the leading categories, with hip-hop artists and female singers including Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Katy Perry grabbing the spotlight.

The best new artist category produced a particularly eclectic mix of female rapper Nicki Minaj, hip-hop artist J. Cole, country sensations The Band Perry, house and electropop performer Skrillex and American folk band Bon Iver.

The seven Grammy nods for West crowned a critical and commercial comeback for the controversial 34-year-old rapper who took a self-imposed hiatus from performing in 2009.

West recorded his best rap album contender My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy in Hawaii after removing himself from the mainstream US music scene following harsh criticism over his 2009 outburst involving country starlet Taylor Swift at the MTV Video Music Awards.

West, already a 14 time Grammy winner, was also nominated for song of the year for All of the Lights and best rap performance with Jay-Z for Otis.

Mars, 26, won three of his nominations on the back of his hit song Grenade off his debut album Doo-Waps & Hooligans.

"It feels incredible right now," Mars told reporters.

"I'm so glad the album is being recognised in this way." "This awards stuff, I'm still trying to get used to it. It's hard for me as Adele and Kanye West are incredible, so the fact that the album was nominated in same category is amazing," Mars said.

Adele///'s 6 nominations mark the culminations of a momentous year for the 23year old singer, who won a Grammy Award for best new artist in2009.

The sultry soul singer was recognized both for her album "21",which has sold more than 12 million copies worldwide,as well as her two smash singles "Rolling in the Deep" and "Someone Like You".

It was during shooting for Edward Scissorhands that Depp finally met co-star Winona Ryder, whom he'd been eyeing since a brief meeting at the premier for her film Great Ball of Fire (1989). The two began dating on the set, and soon became a Hollywood power couple. Five months after their first date, Depp and Ryder became engaged. To solidify their love, Depp even had "Winona Forever" tattooed on his right arm. The couple split, however, in 1993 after Ryder's parents forbade their daughter to marry.

Outside of his personal life, Johnny Depp continued to flourish, gaining critical acclaim and increasing popularity for his work. Several of his most notable roles included his role as the social misanthrope Sam in Benny & Joon (1993), which earned him a Golden Globe nod, and Gilbert in What's Eating Gilbert Grape? (1993), which cast him as a young man dissatisfied with the confines of his small-town life.

In August of that year, Depp and two business partners bought The Viper Club in L.A., which instantly became the hippest spot on the Sunset Strip. In 1998, Depp split from long-time girlfriend Moss, and took the role of journalist Hunter S. Thompson's alter ego in Terry Gilliam's adaptation of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. During filming, Depp cultivated a strong friendship with Thompson, which lasted until Thompson's death in 2005. Johnny Depp would later finance the writer's funeral.

Around this time, Depp also met another person who would become an important figure in his life; while filming the sci-fi drama The Ninth Gate (1999) in France, Johnny met French actress, singer and model Vanessa Paradis. For Depp's next film project, he tried his hand at sci-fi horror with The Astronaut's Wife in 1999. The same year, he teamed up with Burton once again on Sleepy Hollow, starring as a prim, driven Ichabod Crane. He appeared the following year in the small but popular romantic drama Chocolat, followed by a big-budget role as real-life cocaine kingpin George Jung in Blow in 2001. Depp's next film was the terror drama From Hell in 2001 and Robert Rodriguez's Once Upon a Time in Mexico in 2002. In April of that year, Paradis gave birth to the couple's second child, Jack.

In 2004, Johnny Depp earned an Academy Award nomination for his starring role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the family adventure Pirates of the Caribbean. The film was a box office smash, and led to the creation of a Pirates franchise. At the end of that year, Depp also turned in a critically acclaimed performance in Finding Neverland, in which he starred as Peter Pan creator J.M. Barrie. The film earned him more than 10 award nominations, including both Academy and Golden Globe nods.
